इस अनुभाग में, डॉ. आंबेडकर 1929 में चालीसगाँव (महाराष्ट्र) में हुई एक शरमनाक दुर्घटना का जिक्र करते हैं। उन्हें बॉम्बे सरकार द्वारा स्थापित एक समिति का सदस्य नियुक्त किया गया था, जिसका उद्देश्य अछूतों की शिकायतों और उत्पीड़न की आरोपों की जाँच करना था। खांडेश जिले में जाँच करने के बाद, बॉम्बे की ओर जाते हुए, उन्होंने चालीसगाँव में उतरकर एक मामले की जाँच की, जिसमें हिंदुओं ने उस गाँव के अछूतों के खिलाफ सामाजिक बहिष्कार किया था। गाँव के अछूत ने उनसे अनुरोध किया कि वह उनके साथ रात बिताएं, लेकिन तांगा वाले यह मानते थे कि उन्हें अछूत (आंबेडकर) को ले जाना उनकी गरिमा के अनुरूप नहीं है, इसलिए गाँववालों ने खुद तांगा (घोड़ा-चालित गाड़ी) किराया लेना पड़ा और उसे चलाना पड़ा। उन्होंने ऐसा किया, हालांकि तांगा चलाने वाला अछूत नौसिखिया था और जब वे एक पुल पर नदी पार कर रहे थे, तभी दुर्घटना हो गई। तांगा का पहिया पुल के पत्थरों में अटक गया और आंबेडकर तांगा से गिर पड़े। इससे आंबेडकर को कई चोटें आईं और उनकी हड्डी भी टूट गई। घोड़ा और तांगा नदी में गिर गया।
4: दौलताबाद किले के पानी को प्रदूषित
इस अनुभाग में 1934 की एक घटना का ज़िक्र किया गया है जिसने डॉ. आंबेडकर को यह दिखाया कि मुसलमान भी अछूतों को नीचे जाति के रूप में देखते थे।
